Today's award for excellence in broadcasting goes to (insert drum roll here)...
For correct pronunciation of the letter 'H' (in this case used when saying "HSC" on the breakfast show on Nova this morning).
It brought joy to my heart. Especially when he started to correct Akmal Saleh, who was quite frankly starting to do my head in every time he incorrectly said the letter H.
It is a pet peeve of mine. It hurts my ears. Much like a flat note or Kasey Chambers' voice.
I blame my parents.
Anyway.
Aitch. Not Haitch.
Snaps Matt, snaps.

I remember my mum having an argument with one of my brother's teachers because she tried to make him say Haitch. Given that she'd also written "Bass Straight" on the blackboard for their geography lesson, she wasn't ever going to win that one.
i completely 'ate Haitch. for me it has to be aitch all the way. again, upbringing. but it's just a family thing, and i feel bad thinking there is a right and a wrong way to do it.
but we all know there is. and it's nothing to do with class. really.
HHHappy christmas me dear.
xxx
ps matt newton also very goodly in something called stupid men we saw on cable. about people working at a men's mag called coq. hilARious.
I have been known to correct complete strangers in the street, lecturers at uni, theatre/public transport/film school personnel over a loudspeaker, radio DJs live on air and my own teachers when they've said 'Haitch'.
All from the age of 2.
I'd say I also blame my parents, but what I really mean is that I thank them.
Matthew Newton rocks. He only appeared on Thank God You're Here three times in 2006, but he was superb on each occasion.
Forget the Haitches. It's the V's and the W's I have trouble with.
Anyway, Happy Festivus and hope you have a terrific Solstice and an even better 2007.
