Today we celebrate the birthday of the lovely Cake, who, ever since we struggled with a Caryl Churchill scene together in first year (who, when, where, what, why, psychological gesturing*, oily rags**... aaaarrrrgghhh!!!) has been one of my greatest friends.
We'll keep her age a secret.
Cake just got braces. So she thinks she won't get much work until she gets them off.
I found these two images, which might change her mind.
Pepsi. See that Cake? Cindy Crawford did an ad for PEPSI when she had braces. I bet she got paid a bucketload.
Phoebe Cates. OK, so she was a bit younger than you are (but not much!) and she was on the cover of a magazine when she had braces. AND she went on to marry Kevin Kline. Which may not sound appealling to you, but I still find him quite sexy.
Stop groaning. You know my taste in men is odd. Quirky and whip-smart are at the top of the list.
Anyway, what I wanted to say Cake, is that just because you have braces doesn't mean you should take a break from acting. You're far too talented not to be working.
Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

If I had looked like Phoebe Cates when I was a teenager I reckon I would have got a lot more action than I did, braces or no braces.

and susanne... i wanted to be phoebe cates when i was a teenager. even after fast times at ridgemont high.
i wanted to be farrah fawcett, if that's where the conversation has gone now. and i wanted to date adam ant, but that was a bit later.
I wanted to be Judge Reinhold in Fast Times as a teenager ... and yes, we all know which scene in particular I had in mind. (Constantly!)
Always had a crush on Phoebe Cates. The fact that she is happily married to my favourite actor of all time, Mr Kline himself, only adds to my respect of each of them. (Shame, MG.)

As for your question to me, if I said your blog was working on American time for my comments only, do you think you'd fall for that? (End every paragraph with a set of parentheses -- that's my new motto.)
