I have a proposal for you. My new friend Amy (who is Scottish) and I worked it out over a gin & pink at the Comedy@Trades preview on Thursday night.
Firstly, a bit of background for you.
I am an Australian. However, I have always felt that I was perhaps born in the wrong country and consequently have never really felt at home here. The harsh climate and my skin have never been friends and I don't rate Neighbours as a quality soap when compared to Eastenders.
When I arrived in England in my mid-twenties I finally felt like I was home. I loved it all. There was nothing that I missed about Australia apart from my family and a few close friends. I would have gladly stayed there forever.
Except because neither my parents or paternal grandparents were actually born in the UK, I am not able to get a visa based on ancestry. The fact that I am highly employable and would willingly pay the highest rate of tax Gordon and his mates would care to throw at me is inconsequential. Gordon won't let me stay there permanently.
Amy is from Scotland. Whilst she loves Scotland, she loves Australia more. Amy is currently here on a working holiday visa, but would like to stay here permanently. Unfortunately, because she works in the arts, your mates at Immigration are not really looking kindly on her request.
So here is our proposal.
We would like to propose a swap. Amy would live here in Australia, enjoying all the rights and privileges I enjoy as an Australian citizen and I would live in the UK, enjoying all the rights and privileges she enjoys as a UK citizen.
How's that for an idea?
We've done all the leg work for you... all you have to do is get your Immigration mates to rubber stamp it and get Gordon's mob to do the same.
I'll leave it with you.
Cheers K-Rudd. I'll even gift Amy my "Kevin 07" tank top so she really feels at home.

PS - Loved the boots you wore to The White House.
