Ch-ch-ch-changes (aka #200)

Post #200. Impressive? Not really. I obviously have a lot of shite to say.

So the last few weeks I've been doing a lot of planning for the year. Quit my job, do at least three plays with the theatre company I'm an ensemble member of, basically, sort my career into something I'm actually happy with.

And it was on track.

Was.

See the theatre company I am an ensemble member of, the theatre company I am in three plays with this year, has (as of this evening) basically been disbanded. We've had our space taken away from us. We had a lovely little 60 seat theatre in Surry Hills and all because of one nasty member, her vendetta against another member and her lovesick "I will do anything you want me to as long as you marry me" boyfriend (who was our financial backer), we are now without a home. And the three plays I was in? Well I'll be bloody lucky if I'm in one (that was planned to be on at a bigger venue and is a co-production with that venue, so fingers crossed it will go ahead).

It really pisses me off that because of one person's vendetta towards another, I have to suffer the consequences. This person has everything she's wanted now. She is about to marry a millionaire and go and live in New York. If she wants an acting career, he'll buy her one. She will have money, flash cars, luxury houses and she won't have to lift a finger to support herself ever.

Meanwhile, the hardworking person who ran our company will get her visa revoked and will have to move back to the UK after she's put in so much effort in creating opportunities for us.

And I am faced with not having any theatre work this year after having already put in a bucketload of work on three plays. And I have to re-think my whole plan for the year. Because I don't have the millionaire boyfriend who will buy me a career. I have to work on getting that myself.

But I think I still need to quit my job. Its time.

Seriously pissed off.

I can only hope that karma will come along and bite this girl on the ass. But it won't. She'll have the charmed life. She's that kind of person.

Why is it when you think everything is going ok it turns around and gobs on you?

Not a very nice post for #200. I promise #201 will be more positive.

Warne Boy. Boy for Sale.

Don't know which of you will understand the cryptic title... but then I don't know how many of you were raised on musicals.

So.

Two posts in two days. Golly. Don't get used to it or anything. I'm sure it won't last too long.

Last week at work, we received an amusingly entitled email to our general email address (you know the ones sent to mail@xyz.com or info@xyz.com which go to about ten different lackeys in the company who have the fun task of sorting and forwarding). We get amusing emails all the time. We get abusive ones too but I usually just delete those and consider it someone else's problem.

Anyway, this amusing email had to be shared. And I need to know if anyone else received it or whether we were the only ones privy to the honour.

The email was from rebelsport.com.au. I don't know who in our company had been ordering on the Rebel Sport site but I'd like to thank them for doing so, otherwise today's blog would not exist. Inspiration much.

Right.

Have I built it up enough for you yet? Are you sitting there screaming "just bollocking get on with it you stupid woman"?

I hear ya. Just don't get your expectations too high. Its not that funny, but it did tickle my funny bone.

The email was entitled:

Own a piece of Shane Warne from only $35.

Seriously. That was the subject of the email.

What on earth makes Rebel Sport think anyone would want a piece of Shane Warne? You don't know where the dirty bugger's been. And really. $35. That's just cruel. Surely he's worth at least $40, if only to his mum. Or Simone.

And what "piece" of him would you get for $35? A used thumb, worn out from constant text messaging? Or some other nasty piece that doesn't bear thinking about?

Gosh.

I think Rebel Sport needs to hire someone new to write the copy for their advertising emails.

Doctor, I'm Bovvered

Hey there! Remember me? I'll forgive you if you don't... It's been a while.

Apologies, etc. Been a bit stumped for inspiration. And time. Never seem to be enough hours in the day at the moment. I've a "goal/to do" list as long as the Nile and there are some fairly major things on it (quitting my part-time job being top of the list) and working out how/when/where for completing everything on it is making me just a tiny bit anxious.

Anyway.

It hasn't been all work work work. I've had the chance to see some cracking festival shows - the highlight being a tie between Ralph Fiennes and Seemannslieder (I swear I must be one of the few people in Sydney with enough bottle to say that... almost everyone I know hated it and I've been vilified for daring to openly love it so much). This one was rubbish though. I'm not supposed to say that, cos it was co-produced by my employers, but I thought it was very poor. Especially the music. Blander than a bland thing from Bland street, Blandopia.

Oh and I've been sneaking upstairs when I've been at work and watching Keating! (the musical) over and over. If you're in Perth or Melbourne, its coming your way soon so hurry up and get yourself a ticket before it sells out! I guarantee you a great night out or your money back.* The season has been extended three times here in Sydney and has sold out every night since it opened. Keating himself has been along to see it three times (so far!). Kevin Rudd and Gough Whitlam have even popped along to see what all the fuss is about and came out humming away.

Funnily enough, neither little Johnny Rotten nor any of his klan have been along to see it which is a shame. They're probably afraid that it might force them to take a good hard look at themselves.

So that's theatre. That's kept me busy.

I've also (thanks to a mate's parents in the UK) had the chance to see some very special episodes of two of my favourite shows and have been re-watching a third show which has me falling off my chair laughing just thinking about it.

First up, we had the Doctor Who Christmas Special. No Billie (except in one flashback scene) but her loss was (somewhat) compensated by the fabulous Catherine "aks me if I'm bovvered" Tate and the even more fabulous (and virtually unrecognisable as the Empress of Racnoss) Sarah Parish. It wasn't quite up there with last year's Christmas special (dare I say I missed Rose and her chav mum?!) but it was lots of fun and an hour of David Tennant is always a winner with me.

Secondly, there was This Life +10. My expectations were high for this one and I wasn't too disappointed. It wasn't quite as cutting edge as the original series, but that worked, I think, with the fact that all the characters were 10 years older and at a different place/pace in their lives. Egg was still lovely, funny Egg, Miles was still a bit of a prat, Warren was still trying to reinvent himself, Milly was still obsessive-compulsive and Anna was still as mouthy and tactless as she ever was.

But f*** it got me thinking about what I've achieved in the last 10 years. Certainly not what I'd hoped to. Hence my aforementioned to-do list. However that's another post.

The third show I've been (re) watching is, of course, The Catherine Tate Show. I'd forgotten all the fabulous lines... especially from the constantly "bovvered" Lauren and Nan "too fucking lastminute.com now" Taylor. My workmate Loz and I are having a fabulous time amusing each other with taunts of "how very dare you" and "you disrespecting me? you calling me a pikey? you calling my mum poor? you calling my dad a wino?". I suspect some people in our office are going to kill us soon if we don't shut up, but it does make a boring day go much more quickly.

Anyway, I think I've banged on enough here to satisfy even the harshest of my "why haven't you blogged?" critics, so I'm going to run away now. I promise not to leave it so long between drinks next time though.

I have a marvellous post about Shane Warne just itching to be written...

Hugs all round.

* Obviously that's a big fat fib. I haven't got any money which is why I haven't quit my job just yet. But I guarantee you'll love the show.

Pox

Six year olds can be most inconsiderate.

Da Buddha came down with chicken pox last Thursday. Which meant that since we'd all been in contact with her since Tuesday, we were all at risk.

Which meant I couldn't go see any of my mates back in Adelaide (sorry Kathie! sorry Fanny!).

Instead my sis and I sat in her spa drinking champagne and bitching about inconsiderate six year olds.

There are worse ways to spend your time.

I flew back to Sydney on Friday night, but since I didn't have any spots at that stage I decided not to mention it to the flight staff. Hopefully I haven't started an epidemic. But I got to fly business class... courtesy of an old school chum I haven't seen in twenty years who was working the check in counter. Top banana. Apparently I haven't changed much at all in 20 years. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.

Anyway. Just thought I'd keep y'all updated.

I'll get back to scratching now. Just kidding.
