This is it for today

Nice to know where my eight cents a day is going.

I bet some ABC (and therefore government funded) employee spent hours thinking that one up.

Its nice to know that I can live for up to a week without a head. It does get cumbersome at times so I would like to leave it at home now and again.

I don't remember my time as Tsar... but I hope I ruled justly and drank lots of vodka.

100 not out...

I just realised that this is my 100th post. Wow. I sure have some s**t to get off my chest.

Its Australia Day. Happy Australia Day. Hope you're all out throwing snags on the barbie, drinking beer and toasting our forefathers massacre of the indigenous people of this land national day.

I am at work.

I have been at work since 9am this morning.

If I got paid penalty rates/overtime for working on a public holiday I wouldn't mind. But I get no such perks. The arts ethic of parity pay is wearing thin on me right now.

Between my colleague and I we have sold a total of 7 tickets in the last 3 hours. Seven. We normally average 30 tickets an hour so its pretty poor. Everyone is probably out watching that ferry race they do on the harbour.

I'd rather be home watching the cricket.

There are 253 people coming to see the show tonight. That sounds like a reasonable number, but when you factor in that its a 600+ seat theatre, its not so good. Every other performance has been fairly full, so its going to be a bit
of a pisser for the performers (the vast majority of whom will have fairly large hangovers after the effort they put in last night). Give 'em the day off I say.

But of course the bureaucrats people that schedule shows on public holidays never have to work them, so they have no idea how pointless it is us working. And if those 253 people all turn up, then its a sure bet at least 1/3 of them will be pissed. And dealing with pissed patrons is never a fun task when you're sober.

Anyway, that's enough ranting. Although I do feel better for having got that off my chest - thank you for listening. Or flicking through at least.

I really don't know what else to write about today. I'm in sensory overload because of the sheer number of shows I've seen throughout the festival. My last one is tonight - after that I need a rest.

I have two shows of my own coming up... one in early February and the other in late March. Its a good feeling to have back-to-back acting gigs.

I'm sorry that my 100th post isn't more exciting. But think of it as a Yazz thing*.

Love to all...

Mystery Solved

Remember the mystery of how Roy came to be Roy? No? Tsssskkkk. Go on then. Click here.

Anyway, for those few of you who care, I have solved the mystery. How very Nancy Drew of me.

This is why he's called Roy. Tip - scroll down to the bottom. However it wouldn't hurt you to read an article on cricket. If you want the answer in the first paragraph, then read this article.

Right.

Tick that off the list of unsolved mysteries.

Imagine how easy Nancy Drew's life would have been if she'd had Google.

Most...

Beautiful.

Baby.

Ever.

Piper J has her first chuckle at her god-mamma. I'm sure it won't be the last...

I know, I'm biased. I'm allowed to be.

Not Gracie

I was gunning for Gracie, but instead she's been named Piper. Piper Jamie. But that's cool - I can call her PJ. Or, I could continue to call her Gracie, but I can't afford the therapy bills that would ensue from me confusing the crap out of her.

I know I'm rambling, so I'll get you all up to speed.

"She" or "Her" is the baby girl I've just vicariously acquired through Bestie Paige. Piper was born happy, healthy and beautiful earlier this evening and I have become a Clayton's Auntie yet again.

Unfortunately Bestie Paige is not a watcher of Charmed, so is blissfully unaware of the inane questions she (and in time, Piper) has ahead of her. Jamie is the name of Daddy's brother, which I think is really sweet.*

If I had a digital camera I would show you photos of Miss Piper. Sadly I'm not that technologically equipped, so you'll have to take my word for it that she is the most gorgeous baby in the world.

Oh and I've also just arrived home from seeing the much-touted, all-Russian (with surtitles), all-male, Chekov International Theatre Festival production of Twelfth Night.

Best. Shakespeare. Ever.

John Bell was in the audience. I hope he was taking notes.**

And last night I saw Antony & The Johnsons. He was ace. And, it turns out he's a fellow Little Britain fan! I can just imagine him gussied up as the sweet, innocent sister of Vicky Pollard atch-erly.

Monday I'm seeing The Story of the Go-Betweens.

Next Saturday I'm seeing All Wear Bowlers and The Tiger Lillies.

Then on Sunday I'm seeing Elvis Costello & Steve Neive.

And of course at work we're showing Tristan & Yseult, which is loads of fun, with a chorus of very silly love-spotters and a quirky band who play Joe Jackson, Nick Cave and Johnny Cash numbers.

I bloody love Festival time.

* However Brutha had better not expect me to give any (future) daughter of mine the middle name Cameron. Although it wouldn't be a bad middle name for a girl...

** Let's face it - he's never going to give me a role in any of his productions, so why be nice?

Oh Puh-leeeez!

Before I begin, I just need to say that I have been struggling against writing a post on this topic for some time now because I feel there's too much already said about the people in question. But when I saw this picture today,

my blood began to boil and I just had to put my two cents worth in.

According to the people at ninemsn (who obviously have waaaay to much time on their hands), that photo is what the soon-to-be offspring of Bragelina will look like.

Fine, announce the pregnancy. Nice bit of gossip for the water cooler crowd.

But publishing that picture? Honestly...

WHO THE F*** CARES????

It irritates me beyond belief that there is so much coverage on these two and that the press are going into so much detail. So Brangelina are having a baby of their own (ie not a bought one). Great. Just what the world needs. A miniature version of those two.

Am I alone in thinking that these people should not be held up as a good example to society?

If reports are to be believed, he's an adulterer who appears not to give a flying monkeys about his ex-wife's feelings (hmmmm... maybe he's related to Tom Cruise?) and she's a smug, botoxed, "ethnic-babies-make-great-fashion-accessories" husband stealer, who makes that poor child (and unfortunately named) Maddox walk around with a ridiculous haircut. And it would seem that she's now making Brad walk around with bad hair too.

Heaven help Zahara when her hair starts to grow.

I'm sure we'll see a million and one pictures when the baby is born... so why do we have to see one now? I'm sure there'll be a 10 page spread in Hello! and a 15 page spread in Vanity Fair with the two of them all lovey-dovey with their little United Nations brood when the time comes, so why do we have to see pictures now?

Spare us.

The ever-graceful Jennifer Aniston has refused to comment... good for her. She might not be the greatest actress in the world, but at least she has kept her dignity over this sordid mess.

However on the off-chance she's looking for a baby gift for Bragelina Jnr, I would suggest either a mini vial of mummy & daddy's blood to wear on a chain around its neck, or a t-shirt with "Its the Pitts being a Jolie" emblazoned across the front.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Roy

I am a bit of a purist when it comes to my cricket (I was raised on test matches - its a good test of stamina), but having watched the 20/20 match between Australia and South Africa last night I have been converted.

So much fun.

But can someone please tell me why this man...

has the nickname "Roy"?

I'm at a bit of a loss as to how you get "Roy" out of Andrew Symonds.

Anyone?

Viva Las Blackpool

Was it just me or did other people get sucked into the drama/thriller/musical extravaganza that was:

Bevis? My fellow TV addict? Did you watch this?

I know summer is usually shite for TV, therefore sometimes you can be tricked into thinking that crap stuff is good stuff and average stuff is brilliant stuff, but I have to say, this is one of the best things I've seen in years.

Instead of just churning out the usual cops'n'robbers/hustlers/cheating on your partner storyline that most dramas churn out, they spiced it up a bit with some brilliantly choreographed musical numbers using some cheesy pop/rock songs and cast it with some of the UK's finest and quirkiest looking actors.

Including this bloke:

So adorable.

And such a nice change to see normal looking people on TV instead of plastic American actors and the (mostly) plastic population of the train wreck that is Headland (although the lovely Stevie Rodgers is fully exempt from my dislike of this show - he's brilliant no matter what he's in).

Anyway, I'm going to miss my Wednesday night fix of David Tennant now that Blackpool is finished. Thank goodness the ABC has decided to show the third series of Teachers. Even if Andrew Clutterbuck has departed for South America.

It Worked!

Well, at least for one item.

There are still no leads on Mr Isaak or the Wernham Hogg crew.

But I'm pleased to report that Sean Preston's mamma is back! She mysteriously turned up on New Year's Day amongst the albums filed under "M". Who knows, maybe she preferred being amongst Madness, Massive Attack, Madonna and Sarah McLachlan.

Maybe whoever put her there doesn't know their alphabet.

But she's back now where she belongs with Swoop, Steps, Spandau Ballet and Smashing Pumpkins.

And luckily my flatmates weren't home on Monday (it being a public holiday and all) so she was cranked up while I did a spot of dusting and hoovering.

Welcome back Brit. Don't suppose you saw the boys on your travels?
