Doctor, I'm Bovvered

Hey there! Remember me? I'll forgive you if you don't... It's been a while.

Apologies, etc. Been a bit stumped for inspiration. And time. Never seem to be enough hours in the day at the moment. I've a "goal/to do" list as long as the Nile and there are some fairly major things on it (quitting my part-time job being top of the list) and working out how/when/where for completing everything on it is making me just a tiny bit anxious.

Anyway.

It hasn't been all work work work. I've had the chance to see some cracking festival shows - the highlight being a tie between Ralph Fiennes and Seemannslieder (I swear I must be one of the few people in Sydney with enough bottle to say that... almost everyone I know hated it and I've been vilified for daring to openly love it so much). This one was rubbish though. I'm not supposed to say that, cos it was co-produced by my employers, but I thought it was very poor. Especially the music. Blander than a bland thing from Bland street, Blandopia.

Oh and I've been sneaking upstairs when I've been at work and watching Keating! (the musical) over and over. If you're in Perth or Melbourne, its coming your way soon so hurry up and get yourself a ticket before it sells out! I guarantee you a great night out or your money back.* The season has been extended three times here in Sydney and has sold out every night since it opened. Keating himself has been along to see it three times (so far!). Kevin Rudd and Gough Whitlam have even popped along to see what all the fuss is about and came out humming away.

Funnily enough, neither little Johnny Rotten nor any of his klan have been along to see it which is a shame. They're probably afraid that it might force them to take a good hard look at themselves.

So that's theatre. That's kept me busy.

I've also (thanks to a mate's parents in the UK) had the chance to see some very special episodes of two of my favourite shows and have been re-watching a third show which has me falling off my chair laughing just thinking about it.

First up, we had the Doctor Who Christmas Special. No Billie (except in one flashback scene) but her loss was (somewhat) compensated by the fabulous Catherine "aks me if I'm bovvered" Tate and the even more fabulous (and virtually unrecognisable as the Empress of Racnoss) Sarah Parish. It wasn't quite up there with last year's Christmas special (dare I say I missed Rose and her chav mum?!) but it was lots of fun and an hour of David Tennant is always a winner with me.

Secondly, there was This Life +10. My expectations were high for this one and I wasn't too disappointed. It wasn't quite as cutting edge as the original series, but that worked, I think, with the fact that all the characters were 10 years older and at a different place/pace in their lives. Egg was still lovely, funny Egg, Miles was still a bit of a prat, Warren was still trying to reinvent himself, Milly was still obsessive-compulsive and Anna was still as mouthy and tactless as she ever was.

But f*** it got me thinking about what I've achieved in the last 10 years. Certainly not what I'd hoped to. Hence my aforementioned to-do list. However that's another post.

The third show I've been (re) watching is, of course, The Catherine Tate Show. I'd forgotten all the fabulous lines... especially from the constantly "bovvered" Lauren and Nan "too fucking lastminute.com now" Taylor. My workmate Loz and I are having a fabulous time amusing each other with taunts of "how very dare you" and "you disrespecting me? you calling me a pikey? you calling my mum poor? you calling my dad a wino?". I suspect some people in our office are going to kill us soon if we don't shut up, but it does make a boring day go much more quickly.

Anyway, I think I've banged on enough here to satisfy even the harshest of my "why haven't you blogged?" critics, so I'm going to run away now. I promise not to leave it so long between drinks next time though.

I have a marvellous post about Shane Warne just itching to be written...

Hugs all round.

x

* Obviously that's a big fat fib. I haven't got any money which is why I haven't quit my job just yet. But I guarantee you'll love the show.
